Mitchell and I’s wedding day was May 18, 2019 in Nashville, TN at Riverwood Mansion. Our families and friends all traveled from all over the country to come celebrate with us and we could not be more grateful! I can honestly say our wedding day was everything I dreamed of and more. I was filled with so many emotions and excitement and I want to share it all here so I never forget how I felt on that day!
Mitchell and I slept at separate Airbnbs for the weekend so the suspense and excitement of seeing each other at the alter would really build up! After our rehearsal dinner and cocktail meet-up on Friday night I went back to my studio Airbnb and practiced my vows in bed holding back tears, I had waited for the day I would marry Mitchell for 10 years and it was finally coming true the next day. It was a moment I could not describe but it was the most surreal, calm and content feeling! I fell asleep around 11.30pm and woke up before my alarm at 6am the morning of our wedding! I got up and showered while I listened to the playlist of songs that would be playing at our cocktail hour later that day (some of our favorites like: “Mary’s Song” by Taylor Swift and “Where Does the Good Go” by Tegan and Sara). After showering I put on my silk bridal robe ( I will be doing a future post about my all of my bridal accessories!) and my mom and bridesmaids came over. My mom brought me an açai bowl, which was the only thing I wanted to eat on the morning of the wedding, and we headed off to the salon for hair and makeup around 10am.
We got our hair and makeup done at Hunter Paige by Parlour 3 in Brentwood, TN, I will also be doing a full post about our experience there and how I chose my hair and makeup because I just cannot say enough good things about them and I absolutely LOVE how it turned out! We all enjoyed Starbucks (iced soy vanilla latte of course) and mimosas while getting our hair and makeup done and then it was off to the venue! I was very calm all morning at the salon but on the way to the venue I started to get super nervous about the timeline and everything going smoothly! I was also very worried about the weather because the entire wedding was outdoor and the high temperature was 93, but it ended up not being too hot since the ceremony was shaded and we had fans in the reception space.
Once we arrived at the venue, the bridesmaids, flower girls (my younger twin sisters!) and my mom all went up to the bridal suite upstairs to take more pictures in our robes and open letters. I gave earrings for my bridesmaids to wear the day of the wedding and wrote each of them a letter to open. Mitch and I exchanged gifts and letters as well. This is when it all started to feel very real for me, his letter was the absolute sweetest and I just couldn’t believe this was actually happening. He tells me that he was super relaxed and having a blast downstairs with all of the guys and his family but I was having major anxiety about all the anticipation!
After we exchanged gifts the bridal party all went outside to garden to rehearse. I stayed up in the bridal suite getting shots with the photographer and videographer because Mitch and I didn’t want to see each other at all before walking down the aisle. I had the perfect view of the ceremony space from the bridal suite and was able to watch down on the entire rehearsal, I seriously could not wrap my head around the fact that this would really be happening in less than 2 hours!
After the rehearsal Chick-fil-a was delivered (because obviously!!) and I forced myself to eat a few nuggets even though the nerves were making me a little nauseas haha. After we all had a quick bite to eat it was time to finished getting dressed and ready! My sister and bridesmaids curled the flower girl’s hair and I put a little makeup on them before we all got dressed. My mom helped me get into my dress and I remember thinking that I would kind of sad this would be the last time I would put it on! I absolutely loved my dress and wish I could wear it again, it was so perfect for me and the day. Mitchell had no idea what the dress looked like, when I asked him for a guess a few weeks earlier he said he thought it would have sleeves and be pink. He was right about it not being white I guess since it was champagne but not really close at all haha. After seeing it he said he couldn’t imagine me being in anything else.
Once we were all dressed and ready to go my wedding planner made sure the boys were all stuck in their room downstairs and the girls and I went outside to get photos! Getting around in the grass in my heels and dress with the train was quite interesting but it was so so fun! We realized halfway through getting photos that because my dress had so many layers of tulle bugs were flying up and getting stuck between the layers like mosquito netting. It took like 30 minutes to get them all out it was craziness!
Once we got some cute shots outside we went back up to the bridal suite to avoid guests seeing me as they started to arrive (eeep!) and the boys went out and got some photos.
The time in between taking all the photos and the beginning of the ceremony was definitely the peak of my nerves! I was shaky and could not speak and I think the girls were pretty nervous too! We finally decided to turn on some music, touch up our makeup and dance it out to calm our nerves while all the guests were arriving downstairs! ( I put a cute video of us dancing before the ceremony and a photo of the girls helping me pee up on my instagram Wedding highlight!)
Then my wedding planner came up stairs and told us it was time and for the girls to go line up downstairs. I decided to stay upstairs alone for a few minutes and my dad met me up in the bridal suite before we walked down the stairs to get ready to walk down the aisle. It was his first time seeing me and I could tell he was trying not to cry because he could tell I was already so emotional and nervous. We said a quick prayer, took a deep breath and made our way down the stairs.
My wedding planner met us at the bottom of the stairs and let me peak into the reception space because I hadn’t seen any of it yet, I was so blown away by how beautiful it looked and so excited, but also made it more real! I don’t know how to describe how none of it felt 100% real until this moment with my dad by my side about to walk down the aisle but I really couldn’t believe I was marrying Mitchell until that exact moment. I heard the violinist and piano begin to play and watched as my bridesmaids and groomsmen all made it down the stairs, through the archway and turned to walk down the aisle.
I asked to pause and take a breath before making my way out of the house to go down the stairs because my legs were literally shaking and I swear I couldn’t feel them. I focused on walking down the flight of stairs determined not to trip on my dress before I looked up to see Mitchell across the garden. As soon as I saw him my nervousness instantly turned to a pure joy that I cannot even describe into words.
The rest of my walk down the aisle was honestly a blur because it happened so quickly and I just wanted to meet Mitch at the alter! I remember feeling like I looked like I was tripping on my dress because of how excited I was to get there.
Meeting him at the alter just brought so much peace to me and he seemed so calm! I couldn’t believe it because anyone that knows Mitchell knows that he isn’t the calmest person at all!!
Our priest said a blessing, some of our bridesmaid’s and groomsmen recited readings from 1 Corinthians and the book of Ruth, and then Mitchell and I exchanged vows. We made the decision early on to write our own vows and I am SO happy that we did. Hearing him make promises to me as my husband was such an unbelievable moment. Our priest wrote the most amazing homily specific to our love story and our relationship and it was the absolute perfect ceremony of us. It felt so intimate and yet we still had 125 of our friends and family seated in the garden with us.
We offered one another the sign of peace, exchanged rings, had a blessing and were announced as husband and wife! We walked back down the aisle together with the biggest smiles on our faces as our friends and family cheered. The best moment of our lives so far!
Once we walked back through the archway Mitchell broke down into tears. It was the sweetest moment seeing how he was trying to keep it together throughout the ceremony! We went back into the mansion for a quick bite of a bacon-wrapped scallop (SO yummy) and a sip of champagne, while the guests made it out to cocktail hour. Then we headed back outside to get photos together, with our families and the wedding party!
It was absolutely the most magical ceremony and so amazing to have all of our friends and family by our side! It truly felt like a fairytale throughout the entire night and we could not be more grateful for what a perfect day it was, 10 years in the making!
Later this week I will post Part 2 all about the reception and the link to the full wedding photo album, so stay tuned ! 🙂 Thank you for reading and allowing me to share my heart on such an important day in Mitch and I’s life!
